Well, only a few days to go until the Change of Officers and I am strippedof my Badge. Soon I shall be referred to as Colin WHO? A new President will rise to lead our Club. The Club has survived my tenure. Amazing. So what has happened over the past year?

This is the second-to-last time you will be hearing from me before I disappear down the bottom of the garden to eat worms. The year has passed very quickly. Soon it will be the Change of Officers night.

Quite a few things have happened or come to fruition over the last month, including our club laying a wreath at the Stockade Hill Anzac Service and launching our new Cyber Branch Club.

As I stood on the stage giving the Opening Welcome to our Summer Festival, I was very humbled to look over the grounds and see an amazing view of colour, people, tents and bustling activity.

Well, the year is drawing to a close and we are now thinking of family get-togethers,holidays and possible financial ruin as the credit card bills start arriving. Our club over October and part of November has run up 150x volunteer hours according to the Community Service Register with some members still not registering their hours. Very impressive.

Well, it’s been a very busy month of October with our Open Day, a Movie Night, our Derek Wigzell Award presentation at Howick College, chip cooking at the Star of the Sea Gala and the annual District Convention.

As I sit here writing this after the election and Winston Peters is sitting in his boat fishing it’s anyone’s guess who the next Government will be. It’s a relief that Lions do not have MMP to decide their President.

​Well, I managed to survive Change of Officers night and my first business meeting as your new president without the nerves getting too out of control so I feel far more confident now - I think! Our club is now gearing up for events and projects as winter closes.

The Lions year is about to come to a close, which is a good time to reflect on where we have come from and what we have achieved.
