The top 12 photos, and the talented photographers, which will make up The Lions Club of Howick 2022 Calendar are as follows:
We have been very excited to see the high calibre of photos entered in The Lions Club of Howick Student Photo Competition 2021.
We would like to thank the students for putting time and effort into taking their best images. We hope you enjoyed taking the photos and you should all be very proud of your work. We would also like to thank the schools and their teachers for supporting this project.
A very big thank you must go to our sponsors, as without their generosity and support this event would not have been as successful as it has been. We would like to make this an annual event to showcase local students’ photography and hope that it can be an event that is looked forward to each year. Hopefully without COVID lockdowns!
Our wonderful sponsors are:
The independent judges from Canon New Zealand spent a considerable amount of time assessing the entries and were impressed with the high standard. Note that the judges did not see any of the names of the photographers.
We are delighted to announce the top three prize winning places as follows:
Judges Comments: Very dramatic image. A wide angle image needs a strong foreground element. The leading lines (literally), take the eye towards the bright rising sun, which is balanced by the dark bush-clad hillside. Perfect exposure. Great visual story-telling.
We would also like to present the Howick College school with a gift pack of assorted products from Barkers of Geraldine for the staff to enjoy.
Judges Comments: Very creative framing, beautifully exposed, giving a strong sense of calm and intimacy. The sharply focussed, subtly backlit Pohutukawa leaves give the viewer a central focal point in the image.
Judges Comments: Great street/architecture photography. Great composition with dynamics in foreground and clouds in the background. Fits the brief of community well. Brilliant image.
