Gosh, another month gone and the shortest day has passed. Summer is just around the corner.
A great night was had by those who were able to join us for the Mid-Winter Christmas dinner. Annette and I would like to thank those who came with food, goodies and presents and a huge portion of fun; - a memorable night.
We said ‘bon voyage’ to Alan, Karen, Brian and Gillian who have headed to Chicago (will be there by now) as part of the 40,000+ delegates who will be attending the 100 year festivities for Lions International. I am sure they will enjoy the experience and we can look forward to hearing all about the event on their return.
We received a letter of resignation recently from a very long and trusted member of Howick Lions. Resignations always mean we lose not just a member but a friend too. Hugh Brown has advised the club that after 30 years he feels he must call it a day. Hugh has served the club well over the years. He was our president in 1993 and a valued trustee of the club.
We wish him well and must make sure we at least keep him in touch with Howick Lions. I am sure he would enjoy a Tatler to keep up with the news of the club.
Life at Lions is a little quieter this month with no major events although we have the sausage sizzle at Botany Downs to look forward to and I am sure it will be another success.
As many will know Annette and I are off to Fiji on the 28th June (I know - tuff, but someone has to do it) and will return too late on the 5th of July to be at the July dinner. You will be in the very safe hands of VP Colin (President Elect.) I am sure he will look after you all - might even get the tables numbered better!
Just a reminder that our August dinner meeting, August 2nd, will be our ‘Change-Over night’. Please note it in your calendar as we would like a really good turn-out to welcome in the new team for the 2017-18 year.
That’s about all from me. I look forward to catching up with all the news on our return.
Keep the base strong.
President Grant
